
Civil Aid Services (CAS) U.S.A. held a press conference in Chinatown on the 13th to announce the upcoming 19th Officer Inauguration Ceremony, set to take place on June 22. During the event, CAS will honor 14 distinguished individuals from various fields, including Kaz Daughtry, NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Operations, and Chiu Chiu-Yin, Chairman of the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA).
Additionally, the ceremony will feature an art auction to raise funds for next year’s scholarship program, aimed at easing the financial burden of higher education for outstanding students from low-income families.
Origins and Mission of CAS U.S.A.
David Yang, the founder and Executive Director of CAS U.S.A., explained that the organization draws its inspiration from the Civil Aid Services in Hong Kong. Its mission is to ensure community safety and provide emergency relief. Since its establishment in 2005, CAS U.S.A. has received widespread support from Chinese communities across the U.S. and has grown into a robust social service organization with over 500 members.
Expanding Services to Address Community Needs
Amid the rise in gun violence and hate crimes, David Yang stated that CAS U.S.A. plans to expand its services in areas with high concentrations of Chinese Americans to help maintain community safety. The organization actively participates in rescue missions and provides comprehensive support to new immigrants and local residents.
Honoring Outstanding Community Leaders
As in previous years, this year’s celebration will include recognition of individuals who have made significant contributions to society. Honorees include:
- Kaz Daughtry, NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Operations
- Dennis W. Quirk, President of the State Court Officers Association
- Chiu Chiu-Yin, Chairman of the CCBA
- Lai Tsui-Wen, President of the Chinatown Lions Club
- Liu Zhi-Qiang, Commander of NYPD’s 62nd Precinct
These 14 honorees represent a wide range of accomplishments, reflecting CAS U.S.A.’s commitment to fostering collaboration and community betterment.
